Zenned-Out Yoga App Recalls ‘Ancient Cultural Spiritual Systems’

If you’re journeying towards spiritual awakening, it might not hurt to choose the right soundtrack. The Zen Den by Logical Drift app (free for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, pictured below) provides serene, tranquil soundscapes to help you relax (ed. note: Unless that sort of thing drives you nuts).

Music veterans John Matarazzo and Logan Strand, who made the app, spent the last few years focused on new age music projects involving a “distinct ancient cultural spiritual system, manifesting musical healing compositions that produce enlightenment, relaxation and tranquility.” We’re not sure what ancient systems they’re talking about, but since Matarazzo has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan and Sly & the Family Stone, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Zen Den contains 15-, 30-, 45- and 60-minute sessions of music that you can listen to while you meditate or practice yoga. The app also provides music videos, photos, and motivational quotes to “awaken your soul.”

A little testing confirmed that the sessions do in fact feature a variety of musical styles to relax pretty much any listener, but since I am not a yoga non-practitioner, I can’t say whether listening to it while meditating helps reach nirvana, become cosmically aware, or anything of that nature. But it is relaxing. And it is free.

Zen Den is available for Android, iOS and Windows Phone.

That’s about all there is to it. Are you trying to relax while you do yoga or meditate? This free app could be just the thing. And with that, we’ll leave you with an inspirational quote from the Greek philosopher Plato — courtesy of the Zen Den app:

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.”

Sounds about right.
